Maths is Alive in Primary Five!!

Primary five pupils have enjoyed taking Maths lessons outside in recent weeks. They had great fun working in groups to collect a set of IZAK9 cubes, which were hidden in the playground, to show the 3 times tables. Each team worked hard to find all the multiples of three and to correctly display them before another team would beat them to it. They looked for patterns in multiples of three by adding digits and made an interesting discovery!!

Great fun was also had doing “strictly sums” when pupils looked for quick ways to add four single digits just like the scores which the judges in Strictly would award. The girls came up with great suggestions of using doubles, near doubles and multiples of 3 or 4 to find the answers quickly. They took this lesson to the car park where they worked in pairs to find car registrations with a given total or which made a multiple of three.

They also had a visit from four primary seven pupils who came to teach the primary five girls how to play some Maths games. Many thanks to Nicole, Amy, Keeva and Keelagh who passed on their enjoyment of Maths in such an enthusiastic way. We hope that they will come again soon!!
