AAAAAGH! There\'s a shark in the playground!

Visitors to the school on Friday may have had a shock as they drove in to the car park. Below them, in the main playground was a huge sea creature measuring almost 40 metres!

Fear not!

The girls in P6 have been reading Kensuke's Kingdom and in a ship's log entry by the main character, he talks about basking sharks and flying fish. He drew diagrams of creatures up to 40 metres long and the girls decided that it would be fun to see how big that was in comparison to the length of the playground.

We grabbed anything that might be useful - chalk, skipping ropes, beanbags and the novels. Trundle wheels were chosen as the most appropriate tool for measuring up to 40m. Several girls began on the tail and working together, the rest carried on with the ropes and beanbags. It was then decided that we needed more equipment so some went off to find metre sticks and coats to lie end to end. We did not account for the wind blowing coats all over the place! Quick thinking pupils came up with the idea of lying down themselves and the finishing touch was the yellow bean bag container as the eye. All in a morning's work!

Thank goodness no one was too traumatised by the event!
